Sharif Ashanti Abdus-Salaam, MD

Dr Salaam is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with sub-specialty interest in upper and lower extremity joint replacement surgery. He is a native of Port St. Lucie, Florida but has lived and practiced in the Memphis area for 15 years. He received his bachelors degree in mechanicalengineering from Southern University, Baton Rouge and worked as a mechanical engineer in Florida, Kansas and Oklahoma prior to attending medical school at the Howard University College of Medicine. He completed residency in orthopedic surgery at Howard University and a fellowship in shoulder and upper extremity reconstructive surgery at the San Francisco Shoulder, Elbow and Hand clinic (California Pacific Medical Center). He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a fellow of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Dr Salaam has presented at national and international meetings on various orthopedic topics. His practice focus is upper and lower extremity joint replacement. He performs primary and revision total hip, knee, shoulder, elbow and wrist replacement surgery. However, he also enjoys general orthopedics to meet the needs of the Olive Branch and Mid-South community. He places a premium on patient education and patient participation in formulating a treatment plan. In his spare time he enjoys reading, fishing, homesteading and mentoring. He and his wife have two daughters.

Heath Thompson, DO

A native of New Albany and a graduate of the University of Mississippi, Dr. Thompson earned his medical degree at Lincoln Memorial University Debusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, TN. A surgeon with more than 10 years of experience, Dr. Thompson specializes in knee and hip replacement, arthroscopic procedures, and is fellowship trained in orthopedic trauma.

Kevin Yekaitis is a Pearl, MS native. He is a happily married father of three with over 20 years of nursing experience. Kevin joined the team at Champion in 2014. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi College of Nursing in 2000. He then spent the next several years traveling across the country as travel nurse working in various emergency departments. In December 2009, Kevin graduated from Union University with a Master’s Degree in nursing. Since that time he has worked in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. His passion is serving others and offering quality orthopaedic services. “I am truly blessed to be able to serve the residents of DeSoto County and the surrounding area.”

Colton Dunn, FNP-BC

Originally from Pearl, MS, Colton first obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Delta State University in 2015. During his time as a Certified Athletic Trainer, he has gathered experience in several different settings, including high school athletics, physical therapy, orthopedics, and education. After a desire to further his education, Colton began the journey to becoming a nurse practitioner. In 2020, he graduated from Union University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Continuing on to Walden University to receive a Master’s in Nursing in 2023, he then earned his Family Nurse Practitioner certification. Colton lives with his wife, Amanda and their two children in Olive Branch. Colton is excited to serve the Desoto County area with providing excellent orthopedic and sports medicine care!
